The Excitement and Care of Alpine Skiing [B1]

Alpine skiing has grown popular among winter sports lovers. It is far more challenging than many people think. Last winter, I joined a two-day skiing course at a mountain ski resort. Our coach told us that skiing is a mix of skill, balance and careful judgement, not just rushing downhill for fun. We practiced basic turns and braking skills on beginner slopes for hours. When we moved to steeper runs, the speed increased quickly. I learned to watch out for faster skiers coming from above, because people higher up have the right of way on ski trails. Once I lost my balance and slid sideways. Luckily, I did not hit anyone. On the second day, I could finish a whole intermediate run smoothly. The feeling of cutting across clean snow was amazing. But I also understood that the snow environment can change fast. Wind, fog and icy patches can turn an easy trail dangerous. Skiing rewards patience and focus, and it reminds us to respect winter nature.
