The shooting guard, often shortened to SG, is one of the five starting players on a basketball court. Traditionally, his primary strength is outside shooting, including three-pointers and mid-range jumpers. A skilled SG does not merely wait for the ball; he uses screens to create open space. Apart from scoring, he takes part in team defence and fast breaks. Many famous shooting guards become the team’s main offensive star and carry the team in close games.
